Grandmother's Favorite Block!

This makes a 12" block, and is part paper piecing, part regular piecing!

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try Grandmother's Favorite! You will need to print out four copies of the unit needed per block you want to make on very lightweight paper.

To speed piece the half squares, stack the Color 1 and Color 4   3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3 7/8" square line. Mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonal, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart ON the marked diagonal, and on the square line. This will give you four half squares. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

After your side units are paper pieced, join the units into rows as shown at left, using all SCANT 1/4" seams. Sew the rows together to make Grandmother's Favorite!
