Georgetown Circles - Page 2

Stack the Color 3 and Color 4  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 4-1/4" square line, and mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonal. Cut apart on the square line and on the marked diagonal. Don't press open the seams yet! Stack the triangles just as they are, and cut on the other diagonal. This will give you eight two tone units. Now press the seams towards the darker fabric...

To make the side units, sew a Color 1 quarter square triangle to the light side of the half square, as always using a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam towards the outer triangle. Now sew the two tone unit to the left of that. Press seam towards the two tone unit. Add another Color 1 quarter square triangle to the top right, pressing seam towards that triangle. Add another two tone unit to the lower right, pressing seam towards the two tone unit. Make three more units like this...

Make the block center by placing a Color 4  3-1/2" square right sides together and outer edges lined up with the Color 2  6-1/2" square. On the back of the square lightly mark the diagonal in the direction shown at left. Sew ON this marked line. Trim off the excess seam allowance. Press the remainder towards the square. Repeat this with another square on the opposing corner. Repeat again with the two other corners, this time pressing towards the outer triangle...

Now piece the previously made units as shown at left. First make rows, alternating pressing directions with each addition. Join the rows to make the complete block! You did it!! :o)
