** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Now cut the Color 2   2-1/2" x 10" strip into 2-1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 9" strip into two 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 13" strip into two 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Then cut the Color 4  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two  4-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Sew the shorter Color 3 rectangles right sides together to the top and bottom of the Color 5  4-1/2" square in a scant 1/4" seam. (Shown staggered here, but yours need to be aligned with the edges!) Press towards rectangles. Sew the longer Color 3 strips to the sides, and again press to sides...

Sew the Color 1 half square triangles to the left and right of the Color 2 squares. Use that same scant 1/4" seam allowance, and press to darker side. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
