** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First we'll speed piece the half squares, by stacking the two Color 2  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips right sides together. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 2-7/8" square line, then mark in the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut this apart on the square line, and on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching. Press seam allowances to one side. Repeat this with the Color 1/Color 3 and Color 2/Color 3  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strips, and with the Color 3/ Color 4  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strips. Press these  half square seam allowances towards the darker fabrics. Square these to 2 1/2" if needed...

Cut the Color 3  2- 1/2" x 10" strip into four 2- 1/2" squares...

Now just piece the block using the squares and half squares we just made, referring to the diagram at left for orientation and placement...Done! :o)   ...on to Page 2!
