** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by cutting the Color 1  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...
 

Now cut the Color 2  4-1/2" x 22-1/2" strip into five  4-1/2" squares. Cut the Color 2  2-7/8" x 17-1/4" strip into six 2-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them in half once on the diagonal to make twelve half square triangles...

 

Use the template provided to cut four corner units from the Color 1  5" x 20" strip...
 

 

Matching the half way point of the half square triangle sides and corner unit sides, sew four of the units shown at left. A scant 1/4" seam is used throughout the block making. Press seams towards the dark...

 

Now place a Color 1  2-1/2" square right sides together and outside edges aligned atop the top left corner of Color 2  4-1/2" square. Draw in the diagonal line on the back of the square and stitch through all thicknesses ON the drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the corner. Repeat with squares on the remaining corners of the Color 2 square...
