** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 17-1/2" strip into five 3-1/2" squares. Then mark and cut the Color 1  10" x 16"   rectangle into forty 2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 3  10" x 8" rectangle into twenty 2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 3  10" x 14" rectangle into twenty 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

To make the flying geese units place a Color 1 square, right sides together aligned on top of one end of a Color 3 rectangle. Mark the diagonal on the wrong side and SEW on that line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards triangle, then sew another square on the opposite end in the same manner. Make twenty units like this...

Now lay out the pieces need for each star as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press the row seams of the top and bottom rows towards the center, and the middle row seams to the outside. These should measure 6-1/2". Trim if needed. You will be making five stars like this...

Sew the two Color 2  2" x 16" and one Color 3  3-1/2" x 16" strips together along the long edges as shown at far left. Press seam to darker sides and cut this apart at 2" intervals...
