** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 and Color 4  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips into two 2-7/8" squares of each. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles of each...

Now mark and cut the Color 5  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strip into two 4-7/8" squares. Stack and cut these once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 7  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 7   5" x 13" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles...

Next speed piece the half squares, (starting at top left) by stacking the Color 1 and Color 7  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2 7/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2 7/8" square line. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2". Repeat this with a Color 2/Color 7 strip set, a Color 3/Color 7 strip set, a Color 4/Color 7 strip set and a Color 2/Color 3 strip set...

Once all the half squares are pieced and trimmed, sew four corner units as shown at left, using all 1/4" seams. Sew the squares, small half square, and small half squares triangles together first, then sew on the Color 5 larger (green) half square triangle. These should measure 6-1/2"...on to Page 2!
