To make the log corners, follow the steps at left. Step one: sew a Color 4 square to a Color 5 square. Step Two:  Sew a Color 4  2-1/2" rectangle to the previous unit. Step Three: Sew a Color 3  2-1/2" rectangle to the previous unit.

Step Four:  Sew a Color 3  3-1/2" rectangle to the previous unit. Step Five: Sew a Color  2  3-1/2" rectangle to the previous unit. Step Six: Sew a Color 2  4-1/2" rectangle to the previous unit. Make four units like this. These should measure 4-1/2"...

Now place a Color 1 and Color 6  5-1/4" square right sides together and edges aligned. Draw in the diagonal on the back of the top square and stitch a scant 1/4" away from the line on both sides of it. Cut apart on the drawn line. Now also cut each of the resulting triangles on the OPPOSITE diagonal. This will give you four pieced triangles. Sew them together as shown at nearest right to make one Hourglass unit. Make four of these. trim to measure 4-1/2" if needed...

Now lay out all units as shown at left, with the extra Color 1  4-1/2" square as the block's center. Sew three horizontal rows, pressing row seams in alternating directions. Join the rows to finish your Fading Star block! ...on to Page 3!
