** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Colors 1 and 2  2-1/2" x 20" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares of each...

Then mark and cut the Colors 1 and 2  2-1/2" x 18" strips into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles of each...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares...

Next piece the Flying Geese units, by placing a Color 2 small square right sides together atop the left end of a Color 1 rectangle. Lightly mark the diagonal on the back of the small square, and sew ON this marked line. Cut of the excess seam allowance, and press the remaining seam allowance towards the outer triangle.[*NOTE! sew together and save these little cut offs for another project!!] Repeat this with another small Color 2 square on the other end of the rectangle. Make four of these, and then make four more, using Color2 rectangles, and Color 1 squares...

Sew the two types of Flying Geese units together in pairs as shown at left, using scant 1/4" seams. Make four of these...
