** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Using the template provided cut five squares from the Color 1 3-1/2" x 17-1/2" strip... |

Cut eight squares from the Color 2 4-1/2" x 8-1/2" strip... |
|
|
Cut four rectangles from the Color 3 2-1/4" x 13" strip... |
|
|
Cut four squares from the Color 4 2-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip... |

Then cut the Color 5 2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip into two 2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles for the block's corners. Use the template provided to cut twelve quarter square triangles from the Color 3 3-3/4" x 10-1/2" strip... |

Using all scant 1/4" seams now and throughout the block construction, sew together one unit as shown at left. This uses 3 Color 1 squares, 2 Color 3 rectangles and 2 Color 5 half square triangles... |

Sew two of each of the corner sub-units shown at left... |

Now sew a unit B to a unit C, and make two of those. Sew a unit B-rev to a unit C-rev and make two of those... |
