** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Now mark and cut the Color 1  4" x 7" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Then mark and cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 13-1/2" strip into nine 1-1/2" squares... 

Next mark and cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 2  3" x 10" strip into eight 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles. Now mark and cut the Color 2  4" x 7" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

 Sew pairs of Color 1 and Color 2  2" x 3-1/2" rectangles right sides together along one long edge in a scant 1/4 seam. Press to the dark side. These should measure 3-1/2" square when finished. Make four units like this...

 Sew a Color 2  1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangle to the right side of a Color 1  2-1/2" square, pressing seam towards square. Sew a Color 1  1-1/2" square to one end of another Color 2  1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangle, pressing seam towards square. Join these to  make a corner unit. Make four units like this...

Sew the remaining Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" squares together to make the center nine patch...on to Page 2!
