** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First mark and cut one Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares, then cut them again on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2   2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Next mark and cut the Color 3   2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  2- 7/8" x 11- 1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals, and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"...

Repeat this with the remaining Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip and the Color 3 strip of the same size, to make eight half squares...

Then stack the Color 2 and Color 3  3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strips, right sides together,  and speed piece in the same manner to make four half squares. Cut each of these again on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles...

Sew each quarter square triangle to a Color 1 half square triangle. Press seam allowances towards the Color 1 triangle. Trim these back if needed, to measure 2-1/2" square...on to Page 2!
