Chinese Lantern

This makes a 7" x 12" finished block, and is Paper Pieced!

Shown at right are TWO Chinese Lantern blocks.

The first thing that I would recommend that you do, is go to the Practice Paper Piecing Page.  When you feel comfy with paper piecing, come on back and try a Chinese Lantern! You will need to print out two copies of the template page per block you want to make on very lightweight paper. Fat quarters are great for this one!

After you have the units all paper pieced, join them as shown at left,  using  SCANT 1/4" seams. Alternate pressing directions with each row addition...

The quilt is made in columns...or at least MY version is! When placed side by side, the block edges actually will form other lanterns!

Happy Quilting Folks!
