** Preparing the Pieces
and Sewing the Block ** |
I used a variety of cream colored fabrics for this block. You can use
all the same if you prefer! In either case, you need eight 2-1/2"
Squares and five Half Square Triangles (-Made by cutting 2-7/8"
squares in half once on the diagonal, or use the template provided if
you prefer)...
Next use the template provided to cut one handle from the Color
2 6" x 11" rectangle. Add a 1/4" seam allowance
all around as you cut out the handle. From the remaining fabric cut
one 2-1/2" square and two 2-7/8" squares--templates are
provided for cutting those if you'd like to use them. Stack and cut
the two 2-7/8" squares in half once on the diagonal to make four
Half Square Triangles...
Now cut the Color 3 2-7/8" x 8-5/8" strip into three
2-7/8" squares. Stack these and cut them in half once on the
diagonal to make six Half Square Triangles. You only need five per
block, so save the extra for another block or another project...
Using a scant 1/4" seam now and throughout the block making, sew
two pairs of Color 2 / Color 3 Half Square triangles to make two of
the Half Square units shown at top left. Press seams to the dark
sides, Trim to measure 2-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with two
pairs of Color 2/Color 1 Half Square Triangles to get two Half Squares
in that color arrangement...

Using three cream colored Squares and three cream Half Square
Triangles sewn the pieced triangle units shown at left. Place your
handle unit right sides up on the pieced triangle and pin in
place. Hand appliqué down in thread to match your handle, turning
under your seam allowance as your sew...on to Page 2!
