** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" x 17" strips into four 4-1/4" squares each. Stack these squares and cut twice on the diagonals, to make sixteen quarter square triangles of each. You will also need one 6-1/2" square of Color 2...not shown here...

To make the quarter squares, sew pairs of quarter square triangles together, right sides together, as shown at left, using the standard SCANT 1/4" seam. Press seam allowances towards darker fabrics. Sew these paired units together, and press seam to one side...

Then piece the block! Sew pairs of quarter squares together, then make rows, using these, the Color 1 squares, and the large Color 2 center square...on to Page 2!
