** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 12" strip into eight 1-1/2" squares. Then cut the Color 1  1-7/8" x 7-1/2" strip into four 1-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them once on the diagonal to get eight half square triangles...

Next cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 18" strip into twelve 1-1/2" squares...

Now cut the Color 3  1-1/2" x 18" strip into twelve 1-1/2" squares.  Cut the Color 3  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip into two 2-7/8" squares. Stack those and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Cut the Color 3  3" x 12-1/2" strip into ten 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles...

Use scant 1/4" seams throughout the construction of this block. To make each of the four corner units, sew a Color 1 half square triangle to the left and bottom sides of a Color 3  1-1/2" square. Add on a Color 3 half square triangle. Press, and trim this to measure 2-1/2" if needed...

Now make one unit as shown at left, using two Color 3 rectangles, one Color 3 square, two Color 1 squares and one Color 2 square to make the center rows, and adding corner units to the ends. This is the left hand unit...

Make one unit as shown at left, using three Color 3 rectangles, three Color 3 squares, two Color 1 squares and four Color 2 squares to make the rows. This is the top center unit...

Next make one unit as shown at left, using two Color 3 rectangles, two Color 3 squares, one Color 1 square and four Color 2 squares to make the individual units. Sew the shorter unit to the top of a corner unit then add the other rows to that. This is the top right unit...on to Page 2!
