Here's a 6" square that should help with some of those Red, White and Blue leftovers...

This is an original pattern. Please abide by the Terms and Conditions of use! :o)

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Sew together strips of Red, White (or light tan, as I show here) and Blue fabrics, using all 1/4" seams, and pressing seams towards the darker fabrics...

Then center the heart template over the pieced unit, and draw a line 1/4" outside of it's edges. Cut out along this drawn line...

(* note...if it were me, I would also save the bits being cut off to use in another project!)

Pin the heart to a background square, and appliqué on, using your favorite method. Some ideas...needle turn the edges under and blind stitch, or turn under the edges and topstitch, or fuse the heart on (if this won't be washed often) and blanket stitch with embroidery floss, or machine blind stitch, whatever method you like best!...
