** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, mark and cut the Color 1  5" x 15" rectangle into twelve 2-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 3  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four  4-1/2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 3 /Color 1  2-7/8" x  11-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8" square lines. Now mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching and on the square lines. This will give you eight Color 3/Color 1 half squares. Repeat this same procedure with a Color 3 / Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip set to get eight in that color combo, and with a Color 1 / Color 2  2-7/8" x 5-3/4" strip set to get four in that color combo. Press all seams towards the darker fabrics...on to Page 2
