** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 42" strip into four 2-1/2" x 10-1/2" strips. Next cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 26" strip into four 2-1/2" x 6-1/2" strips...

Now cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares...

Sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 40" strips right sides together along one long edge, using a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press to dark side. Cut apart at 2-1/2" intervals to make sixteen pieced units.  Use those units to make eight Four Patch units as shown at bottom left...

Then sew the Color 1 and Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strips right sides together along one long edge, again using a scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press to dark side. Cut apart at 2-1/2" intervals to make  four pieced units...

Now lay out four Four Patch units, the pieced units we just made in the step above, and the 2-1/2" Color 3 square as shown at left. Sew three horizontal rows, and then join those rows to make the block's center unit...

Next sew Color 2 squares to each end of each Color 1  6-1/2" strip. Press seams to darker sides. Sew a Color 1  10-1/2" strip to the top of each of these...on to Page 2!
