** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1 3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares. Stack the 3-7/8" squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles. Next mark and cut the Color 1 2" x 24" strip into twelve 2" squares... |

Now cut one Color 2 6-1/2" square for the block's center. Mark and cut the Color 2 2" x 16" strip into eight 2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 2 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Stack the 2-3/8" squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles... |

Then mark and cut the Color 3 3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares. Mark and cut the Color 2 13" square into four 6-1/2" squares... |

To speed piece the small half squares stack a Color 2 and a Color 3 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-3/8" square lines. Draw in the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines and on the marked diagonals between the rows of stitching. Press seams to darker side. Trim these back to measure 2" if needed. Repeat this with a Color 1 and another Color 3 strip of the same size...on to Page 2! |
