** Sewing the Blocks **

Instructions show how to make one block...you make twelve!

Start by cutting the Color 1  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 1  2-5/8" x 10-1/2" strip into four 2-5/8" squares. Cut the Color 1 2" x 16" strip into eight 2" squares...

Using the template provided cut eight trapezoids from the Color 2  4-1/2" x 21" strip...

Cut the Color 3  2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip into four 2-3/8" squares. Stack these and cut them once on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles. Cut the Color 3  2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares...

Cut the Color 4  4-1/4" x 8-1/2" strip into two 4-1/4" squares. Stack these and cut them on both diagonals to make eight quarter square triangles. Cut the Color 4  2" x 14" strip into four 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles. Cut the Color 4  2" x 16" strip into eight 2" squares...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 4  2-3/8" x 4-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-3/8" square line and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Now cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the 2-3/8" square line. This will give you four half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim these back to measure 2" if needed...now on to Page 3!
